Illness

Seeing as English is the primary language along with L’uganda in Uganda, what could be more fitting then to write in English for once? I’m sure that a lot of you back home need to refresh your English knowledge!

Not much have happened since the weekend, the days just fly by. You wake up early to work, you come home late, have to buy groceries, cook dinner and then it’s time for bed. Not much time to do anything besides the necessary.

But what have happened is that we’ve had some sort of outbreak of illness in the group, almost everyone is experiencing unruly stomachs or headaches. Several people have under the course of the week stayed home or went home early because of illness, myself included. The most probable cause to this is some type of food we’ve all eaten together, maybe the dinner or breakfast we ate at our overnight stay in Jinja?

Oh, I almost forgot, the new group of teachers consisting of Erika, Matthew and Magnus has arrived to Uganda. They visited us all
at our workplaces during the day, to say hi and get accustomed to our workplaces. Maria has, as I’m sure some of you know, already traveled back to Sweden. But Anders and Stefan is still here, and they will be going home during the night of Thursday/Friday.

This weekend we will be going to Bussi Islands - which is a group of Islands in Lake Victoria - as a part of our project “solvatten” where we will help these poor inhabitants with devices to making clean and safe water. Besides helping them with water, we’ve all brought some stuff from Sweden to give to the people that live there. I myself brought clothes, caps, pens and writing blocks.

That is all for now, here are some new pictures!

Ugandas biggest rainforrest, which is not big at all compared to Rwandas forrest. It is located inbetween Kampala and Jinja.

  1. Congratulations Jonas on your fantastic English blog! A real pleasure to read (Scott, your turn next!).
So sorry to hear about the outbreak of tummy bugs and headaches, more than likely the change in environment at the weekend with the rafting and probably too much of Nile that was inadvertently swallowed?
Keep using the hand disinfectant and the "stop the tummy rot" tablets.
Yes, you guessed right, this is Scott's English Mum writing.
Ulf and I are also struggling this week, with a mild bout of the flu that has hit hard, especially the West coast of Sweden. The local GP newspaper estimated that 1 million Swedes were ill with the current flu virus!
Keep up the good work and enjoy Bussi Island and all the new things that you will, no doubt, experience there.
Take care of each other, remember a little "TLC" goes a long way!
    Big hug to all!
    Fiona

  2. Hej Jonas
